I can see this becoming a title trend, so I'm going to write it down now before I forget next Finals Week: Almost through with Quarter Two, Nearly free of Quarter Three, Just about won/ashore with Semester One/ Quarter Four, Gunna Seppuku/Survive Semester Two/Quarter Five.
...Leave me alone I'm an English major at heart...
Anyway! It is finals week and while I still have three papers due and a presentation tomorrow, I'm not worried. I'll take them one at a time and be done by Thursday. It's more of the packing and shopping and all the other logistics I need to get done before I leave for home on Saturday that will probably stress me out. TRAVEL MY BANE!
I spent my weekend FINALLY getting sleep. Though I'll bet I revert to nocturnal tonight, especially since I don't have an 830 meeting like I did last week. I also WROTE LAST WEEKS BLOG so if you didn't notice that, its posted for Nov 28th. I added a new section to the blog page too which you can see on the right hand side. It's called Popular Posts. I've been telling new people about this blog and for those that haven't followed it for the past year and a half, they may want some highlighted articles. I don't get to pick the ten that are there, they are the most visited. So if there was a particular post you really liked, keep visiting it again and again and it will appear on the right. The number one post is the one I actually kept visiting because it was my name list before the creation of the Cast of Characters which is also to the right.
Besides sleeping and working, I went to two Columbus-y events. Powder Climber and I wandered through what's called the Gallery Hop, where all the stores and art galleries open up on the first saturday and people bar hop and look at the cool shops. It was nice around the holidays because the stores were all decked out. It wasn't anything super amazing, maybe if we'd gone actual bar hopping and saw if there were deals, it'd be better. Some places served drinks and cookies but not enough to feel like I was getting a bunch of free stuff. Still, it was a nice night and cool to be out and about.
Today I went to the German Village of Columbus, which had its lights festival. It was raining so there weren't that many people out and the lights in the bags were kind of... damp. But German Village is really amazing because it has cobblestones, a beautiful church with an organ over 100 years old that they were playing, awesome galleries and candy shops, a German style bratwurst restaurant and my favorite place in this entire state: The Book Loft. I mentioned it in my excursion with T. S. Eloquent when I first arrived out here, but it was nice to see it lit up for Christmas. There were also carolers, yes old school style carolers, and musicians and cookies and chocolate and spiced cider everywhere. It felt a bit spread out for an event, but it was over the entire district so its acceptable and I got my exercise. It also Really put me in the Christmas spirit and I'm finally listening to Christmas music. I have one week to appreciate my iTunes collection because I'm leaving this computer here and living off my laptop for the next 20 days. Gotta make it count!
Things I learned from the first night of drunken debauchery with the cohort: One game of kings cup is not enough. Minimum two, which we stuck with! Tall Bear makes very sweet, very pink drinks but they are pretty good. Tall Bear cannot go very long without swearing even though only three years ago he never swore (consequence: had to cover his eyes until someone else swore- that was my EPIC rule) We were all at Cardmaster Cider's apartment, (I may end up just calling her CC). CC does not like getting tricked into answer questions, which often resulted in her being blinded instead of Tall Bear. Powder Climber gets really mellow when he drinks. Dandy Woo gets really energetic. Amusement for all! And if it gets really late at night, student affairs people start talking about heavy topics like tolerance, religion, abortion, politics, and spirituality. You know you're a grad student when...
OK now the moment you've all been waiting for... Gloves vs Umbrellas!!! You all know I hate umbrellas. That is just a fact of life. A fact that's more depressing that I kinda need to use umbrellas sometimes. Though I just walked around the entire German Village in the rain with nothing but a coat. Suck it Umbrellas.
I did have to wear gloves. Here are the reasons I dislike gloves:
If you lose one you're screwed.
It's pretty easy to lose one.
If its really cold my fingers still get cold.
If you stick a gloved hand in a pocket and pull something out, the glove pulls everything in the pocket out.
It's hard to zip zippers with a gloved hand.
It's hard to use keys with a gloved hand.
It's weird to blow your nose cuz you can't feel the tissue.
And biggest reason I hate gloves: Smart Phones are rendered useless. I literally have used my nose (before it got too cold to register with the screen too) in order to try and answer phone calls. I need those special gloves but that seems like a scam to get me to buy more gloves that I can quickly lose. Le Sigh!
Unlike umbrellas, gloves have a few redeeming qualities:
They generally keep my hands warm.
If I have a cold beverage, I don't mind holding it.
Unlike umbrellas, I can hold a cold beverage and still be able to do stuff like punch someone in the face or give them a high five.
There are no adequate alternatives to gloves. Pockets render both hands useless and usually aren't as warm.
Yea, this was no contest. Gloves trump umbrellas. But gloves still have many terrible side affects. Is it summer yet? :(
I've decided cuz of the random mood I'm in to do a Character Spotlight to conclude this blog. Today's winner Mother Mapster!! Her master of maps and motherly mayhem mayhaps make me most ampped! Congratulations Mother Mapster! Less than threes for you today too!
That's it, I'm out. Next update from California!!
